Penthouses and loft apartments for sale in London
With imaginative designs, much more floor space than other apartments (sometimes three or four times as much), plus high end fixtures, fittings and services, buying a London penthouse or loft is the way to go if you can afford it.
What to expect in a penthouse
Some penthouses have their own roof terraces, giving you outdoor space and plenty of sun, not to mention panoramic bird’s eye views. Even from the inside, the floor-to-ceiling windows in most penthouses deliver amazing levels of light in and views out. The penthouse you’re considering buying may very well be a notable feature of the London skyline in itself.
It’s also rare to find a property like this lacking in all modern conveniences and amenities. There will be plenty of bathrooms, and the bedrooms will commonly have walk-in wardrobes. Kitchen will be top-of-the-range, with spacious areas for dining, relaxing and entertaining.
The very best properties will commonly include features such as Jacuzzis and home cinemas. There’ll often be underfloor heating, plasma TVs and in-built speakers and lights that respond to motion. Many will have their own private entrances and lifts.
Penthouses often benefit from high level services such as concierge, on-site gym or fitness suites, beauty clinics and leisure and business facilities, plus car storage and care. Several have their own on-site bar or restaurant.
What to look for in a loft apartment
Like penthouses, one of the keys to the attractiveness of a loft is the sheer amount of space on offer. With lofts, however, you can expect to find a lot of variation in layouts, given that the great majority are conversions from office or industrial buildings.
Here in London that could mean anything from converted print-works to railway buildings or dockside warehouses. Many of these buildings were originally Victorian, and the Victorians were not ones to stint on size or quality. This means that todays loft conversions are solidly built, look great, and are often architectural gems. Expect high ceilings, masses of space, and unusual features, along with some magnificent original fittings here and there.
Although less standard than with penthouses, many lofts will also be at the high end in terms of modern fittings, and some will also offer concierge, plus other services and amenities.
