Theresa Parkes

Theresa Parkes – Property Co-ordinator

I have been working in the property world since 1984 when I finished at Pitmans Secretarial College.

I started off working for an architect’s practice, and was able to see the growth of a building from design through to construction. This was a great way to learn to work in a team with all the people involved along the way. I then went on to work for Property Management surveyors and then Retail surveyors in the West End and then later in Portsmouth. This gave me extensive experience in dealing with the public and liaising between landlords and tenants. Following this I worked for residential estate agents, dealing directly with the public and carrying out property management.

Having worked in all aspects of property, I very much look forward to being of help to both landlords and tenants.

Theresa Parkes - Q and A

What inspired you to work in property?

My first job was to work as a secretary for an Architectural Practice in the West End, which introduced me to the exciting world of property. This was where I witnessed the whole process of a building being designed and then built, from scratch, and the extensive teamwork involved at every stage. My work then progressed to working for both commercial property surveyors and residential estate agents – both in administration and then property management. This taught me the structure of how property companies work, and I learned the process involved in assisting people to achieve their end result of either renting a premises for their business, or renting or buying and selling their home.

It gives me great satisfaction and enjoyment to see a happy ‘end result’. It is wonderful to be part of a process that results in somebody finding and settling in to their home or business.

What values do you feel are important in working for Outlet?

I believe that looking after and respecting our customers is the most important part of our work; ensuring that all parties are happy and that their needs are met at every stage. Communication with our customers is essential throughout. Outlet goes the ‘second mile’ and stands out from other estate agents as we care about our customers and their requirements as well as providing a first class service.

Where is your favourite place to live in London?

This has to be South London and Streatham in particular, as I was born in Streatham and have lived there my whole life bar 8 years in Portsmouth. There is a real community spirit there, as well as accessibility to all areas of London, together with great bars, restaurants and nightlife.

What are your favourite things to do in London?

Meeting family and friends in our lovely local pub. Also we are surrounded by beautiful Commons which are a great place to relax.

Best night out in London?

I have had many an enjoyable evening in Fino’s Italian Restaurant and Wine Bar in Mayfair which I was introduced to when first working in the West End. Situated in Mount Street, just of Berkeley Square, the Restaurant has very friendly staff who always remember their customers, and their food and wine is fabulous. There is a wonderful atmosphere and time stands still!
