Victoria Area Guide

Property for sale or rent in Victoria SW1

Victoria Railway Station was built to serve the Great Exhibition of 1851. Today, Victoria is one of the leading rail hubs in the UK, serving all the South of the UK, and many destinations to the South West and East of London.

Victoria is home to some good restaurants, plenty of department stores and several theatres and clubs. As for green spaces, you’re spoiled for choice, with both St James Park and Green Park on your doorstep.

In addition, Victoria hosts several government departments, so there are numerous civil servants to be seen.  And not a few MPs either – it’s handy for the House of Commons. Also, with the proximity of the Train Station and Coach Station, many backpackers – there are lots of cheap hotels and hostels, alongside high end examples such as the Grosvenor.

But there’s also an increasing number of young professionals to be found. Once seen as dull and uninspiring, Victoria is now becoming a highly attractive location. It certainly has a great deal to recommend it.

Properties in Victoria

Victoria property prices are high. A large number of houses have been converted, being divided into large flats, many around garden squares. There are also many imposing mansion blocks. As it’s so close to Belgravia and Chelsea, not to mention the West End, and has such good transport links, it’s a highly attractive area to live in.

In addition, Victoria is a designated ‘Opportunity Area’ in the Mayor’s London Plan, which means it’s going to be the focus of various expansion and regeneration projects, including commercial and residential growth. Once seen as dull and gloomy, Victoria is definitely a place to consider moving to.

New developments include Howick Place, previously a Royal Mail sorting office, but now housing residential space, as well as shops, galleries, offices and more. Another tip for the future is the area to the east of Vauxhall Bridge Road. Previously heavily commercial, residential conversions are transforming this neighbourhood.
